Composition
Homme Exceptionnel, launched in 2008, is a woody aromatic Eau de Toilette for men. Mandarin orange, coffee and lavender open over ginger, mint and sage, drying down to amber, patchouli and musk. It is now discontinued.
To me this smells like the best kind of morning: mandarin orange juiced over a double espresso, lavender drifting in from a window box. The coffee note is real — dark, roasted, slightly bitter — cut through with citrus brightness. Ginger, mint and sage keep it crisp through the middle, like a cold towel on the neck, before amber, patchouli and musk warm it into something smooth and easy. It's discontinued now, which feels like a crime — this was the effortlessly put-together man in a bottle. Beginner-friendly.
