Composition
The Hinduism entry in the 2002 Series 3 Incense collection, named for the Golden City of Rajasthan. Cardamom opens into incense, cinnamon, pimento and cistus labdanum, over amber, benzoin and dark woods. A masala-chai spice market wrapped in incense.
This is the one I reach for when I want to disappear into somewhere ancient. I smell cardamom crushed under a brass mortar, cinnamon bark snapping over a fire, and then the incense — real, resinous, the kind of smoke that hangs inside a Jain temple corridor in Jaisalmer at dusk. Cistus labdanum glows underneath like hot coals, benzoin sweetens the edges, and the whole thing is wrapped in dark woods — ebony, gaiac, cedar — like walking through an old fort library. Hours later it's amber and skin, the smoke still clinging to your clothes the morning after. This is incense as architecture, not decoration. It asks you to be serious.
