Issey Miyake's landmark 1994 masculine, composed by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud around the then-unusual note of Japanese yuzu. A sparkling opening of yuzu, lemon, bergamot, tarragon and lemon verbena flows into a watery-spicy heart of blue lotus, nutmeg, lily-of-the-valley and geranium, settling on Tahitian vetiver, sandalwood, cedar, musk and tobacco. Crisp, radiant and enduringly modern.
Scent story
I've smelled this a hundred times and it still works. Yuzu and lemon and bergamot explode at the top — that electric citrus-green opening that defined the nineties — and then the famous heart: blue lotus, lily-of-the-valley, geranium, a whole spice market of nutmeg, saffron and cinnamon humming underneath. It smells like a waterfall in a city. Tahitian vetiver, musk, cedar, sandalwood and amber dry it down clean and woody, the tobacco a whisper you only catch late. It's the blueprint every fresh masculine since has copied. If you don't own it, you know someone who does. Beginner-friendly.
