Composition
Rahat Loukoum is Serge Lutens' 1998 gourmand built on the scent of Turkish delight. Hawthorn, almond and cherry blossom melt into rose, benzoin and tonka, over a base of vanilla, musk and sandalwood. Powdery, nutty and delicious — the house's most edible comfort scent.
To me this smells like the inside of a Turkish sweet shop — hawthorn, almond and cherry blossom dusted with powdered sugar, melting into rose and benzoin and tonka in the heart. It is Turkish delight made wearable, and it is glorious. The vanilla, musk and sandalwood base keeps it soft and pillowy, never sharp. Of all of Lutens' strange and beautiful creations, this is the warm hug — the one you reach for when you want to smell delicious and be loved for it. Beginner-friendly.
