Scent story

To me this smells like a stone chapel in winter, the door just closed behind you. Incense smoke hangs in the cold air, thin and grey, over starched linen and scrubbed stone. The jasmine is ghostly — white flowers pressed in a prayer book, their scent barely alive, lily pale beside it. But underneath the purity there is civet, animalic and warm, the living body beneath the habit — that is the whole tension of this perfume, flesh and spirit in one breath, white musk and ambergris trying to keep it clean. It is beautiful and it is unsettling, and it is not trying to please you. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
