Composition
Released in 1998, Le Feu d'Issey is a warm oriental-floral in the brand's spherical red flacon. Coriander leaf, anise, bergamot, coconut and Bulgarian rose open over an unusual heart of milk, Sichuan pepper, caramel and jasmine. Guaiac wood, sandalwood, white amber, vanilla, musk and cedar form the base.
To me this smells like a Goan beach shack that learned French — coconut and bergamot on the ocean breeze, anise sharp as the first sip of feni, coriander leaf green and unexpected. Then it turns: warm milk, caramel, Sichuan pepper tingling like a dare. It's the strangest, loveliest heart in 90s perfumery — lactonic and spicy at once, rose and golden lily floating over it like lanterns. Guaiac and sandalwood smoke it gently from below, white amber and vanilla warming the whole thing into something that glows rather than burns. Fire, but the cozy kind. The kind you sit next to, not run from. Beginner-friendly.
