Composition
Jeux de Peau (Skin Games) is Serge Lutens' 2011 ode to the scent of warm skin and toasted bread. Wheat absolute, immortelle and apricot create a golden, yeasty warmth, supported by sandalwood, licorice and ambrette. Gourmand without sweetness — the comfort of a bakery at dawn.
This smells like a bakery at 5am, and then like the person who works there. The bread accord is unmistakable — warm, yeasty, golden crust — with wheat absolute and apricot giving it this toasted, almost honeyed richness, immortelle adding its strange curry-maple warmth. It is the scent of warm skin after sleep, of dough rising, of comfort made physical. Sandalwood, licorice, and ambrette in the base keep it cosy and slightly musky, like a woollen blanket. It is a gourmand, but a strange and tender one — less dessert, more dawn. I have never smelled anything else like it. Beginner-friendly.
