Composition
Released in 2006, composed by Francis Kurkdjian and named for Mozart's opera. Ylang-ylang, mandarin and bergamot open into jasmine, tuberose, wallflower and rose, over sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla and patchouli. A grand white-floral drama.
To me this is a harem garden at dusk — ylang-ylang heavy and narcotic in the warm air, jasmine and tuberose climbing the walls, roses blooming in the last light. Mandarin and bergamot sparkle at the top like laughter from another courtyard. Sandalwood, vetiver, and vanilla in the base turn it creamy and golden, like skin warmed by a whole day in the sun. It is unabashedly sensual — all white flowers and warm skin, no apologies. The kind of scent that makes an ordinary evening feel like a scene from a film. Beginner-friendly.
