Composition
Launched in 2003, composed by Pierre Bourdon and inspired by the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. A kaleidoscopic opening of lavender, fruits, spices and herbs leads to a floral heart, settling on amber, oakmoss, leather and woods. Opulent and baroque.
To me this smells like the Topkapi Palace treasury with the lights low — pineapple and melon absurdly rich on a silver tray, bergamot and grapefruit cut like crystal, and then the spices arrive in a procession: nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, caraway, ginger, basil, thyme, a whole bazaar in a bottle. Lily of the valley and jasmine flicker like candlelight; leather and Brazilian rosewood darken the corners. Amber, oakmoss and vanilla settle it into something imperial and eternal. This is opulence as an art form — baroque, dense, magnificent, and utterly uncompromising. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
