Grapefruit
“Bitter-sparkling citrus with a pithy edge — crisp, energizing, and slightly green.”
Grapefruit brings a bittersweet, sparkling energy to perfumery that is more sophisticated than lemon and more vibrant than orange. Its peel oil smells juicy and tart with a distinctive bitter pithiness and a faint sulfurous sparkle that perfumers love. It shines in fresh, aromatic and sporty compositions, giving them a modern, energetic lift. Like all citruses it fades within a couple of hours, but what an opening it provides. In Indian summers, grapefruit is superb, its bitter edge keeps it interesting in humidity where sweeter citruses can fall flat. It pairs beautifully with vetiver, mint and marine notes for the ultimate hot-weather fresh scent. If bergamot is classic, grapefruit is its cooler, more contemporary cousin.
