Composition
Drôle de Rose is a unisex eau de parfum from L'Artisan Parfumeur, launched in 1996 and composed by Olivia Giacobetti. Star anise and African orange flower open into rose, violet and iris with a powdery, lipstick-like character. Almond, white honey and leather complete the retro, playful base.
To me this smells like opening your grandmother's vanity drawer — star anise and orange flower first, strange and retro, then rose, violet and iris blooming powdery as old lipstick, the kind in the gold tube. Almond, white honey and a whisper of leather soften the base like a worn handbag. It is playful and nostalgic at once, a rose with a wink. Olivia Giacobetti made the past smell fun. Star anise opens with a cool liquorice flash, strange and immediately lovable. Beginner-friendly.
