Composition
Bois Farine is a unisex eau de toilette from L'Artisan Parfumeur, launched in 2003 and composed by Jean-Claude Ellena. Inspired by the Ruizia cordata tree of Réunion island, whose red blossom smells of flour, it opens with fennel seed into iris, jasmine and heliotrope. White cedar, guaiac wood, sandalwood, benzoin and musk form the powdery, woody base.
To me this smells like a flour mill on a tropical island — which is exactly what it is. The Ruizia cordata blossom of Réunion smells of flour, and Ellena bottled it: fennel seed and powdery notes opening soft as sifted wheat, iris and heliotrope blooming powdery and cool. Jasmine lifts the heart like sunlight through dust, while white cedar, guaiac wood, sandalwood, benzoin and musk build a base like warm wooden beams. Powdery, woody, completely original — the strangest comfort scent I know. Beginner-friendly.
