Composition
La Chasse aux Papillons is a unisex eau de toilette from L'Artisan Parfumeur, launched in 1999 and composed by Anne Flipo. Bergamot, lemon and pink pepper open into orange blossom, lime blossom and jasmine. The base rests on tuberose, ylang-ylang and white flowers, evoking butterflies drifting through a summer garden.
To me this smells like running through a meadow trying to catch butterflies and not minding that you never will. Bergamot and lemon fizz at the opening, pink pepper tickles, and then orange blossom, lime blossom and jasmine float past — each one there and gone, like wings. Tuberose, ylang-ylang and white flowers settle soft as a sigh. It is the most carefree white floral in existence: no weight, no agenda, just sunlight and petals and motion. Pink pepper tickles the citrus opening like static electricity. Beginner-friendly.
