Composition
Released in 2001 as an homage to the tenor Enrico Caruso. Almond opens into orange blossom and lemon, over sandalwood, amber, lavender and tonka. Powdery, nutty and theatrical.
To me this smells like the dressing room of a great tenor, an hour before curtain. Almond opens powdery and sweet — marzipan dusted over everything — like stage makeup and anticipation. Then orange blossom blooms, theatrical and luminous, with lemon keeping it bright and awake, the way a voice warms up, scale by scale. The drydown is pure velvet: sandalwood and amber like heavy curtains, lavender powdery as talc, tonka bean warm as applause fading. It smells like the romance of the old stage — dramatic, a little vain, completely lovable. You half expect to hear an orchestra tuning up somewhere behind it. Beginner-friendly.
