Al Oudh is a unisex eau de parfum from L'Artisan Parfumeur, launched in 2009 and composed by Bertrand Duchaufour. Inspired by the Arabic desert and old caravans transporting myrrh, gold and incense, it opens with caraway, dates, dried fruits, cardamom, pink pepper and orange blossom. Agarwood, leather, incense, saffron, rose, iris and neroli form the heart, over a base of civet, myrrh, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, tonka bean, Virginia cedar and vanilla.
Scent story
To me this smells like a caravan crossing the desert at night. The opening is a feast — dates and dried fruits, cardamom and pink pepper, caraway sharp, orange blossom sweet on the wind — the last warmth of the day's market. Then the night comes: agarwood deep and resinous, leather and incense, saffron burning gold. Rose and iris flicker like distant lanterns, neroli bright for a moment, but the civet keeps it animalic and real — this is not a sanitized Orient, it is sweat and smoke and spice. Myrrh, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, tonka, vanilla: the whole spice route in the drydown. Epic, and not for the faint of heart. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
