Composition
Vanille 44 is Le Labo's 2007 Paris city exclusive by Alberto Morillas — vanilla disguised. Bergamot, mandarin and aldehydes open into incense, settling into guaiac wood, bourbon vanilla and musk. Dry, woody and smoky rather than sweet — a cozy, chic vanilla for the city of love.
To me this smells like walking past a Paris church at night in the rain, when incense from the evening service is still hanging in the cold air. Bergamot, mandarin and aldehydes open bright and almost metallic, and then the incense takes over — dry, smoky, contemplative. The vanilla underneath is Bourbon and dark, nothing like the sweet kind. Guaiac wood and musk dry it down into something woody and intimate, like a wool coat that has absorbed a whole evening. This is vanilla disguised as a city night: cozy, chic, and not remotely innocent. Beginner-friendly.
