Composition
Iris 39 is Le Labo's 2006 chypre-floral by Frank Voelkl, centered on one of the most precious essences in perfumery. Lime, ginger and cardamom open into iris, violet, rose and ylang-ylang, over patchouli, musk and civet. Serene, earthy and warm — a watercolor iris with a spiced twist.
To me this smells like a watercolor left out in a spice market. Lime, ginger and cardamom open bright and crackling — an electric start for something so soft — and then the iris blooms through in powdery waves, with violet, rose and ylang-ylang turning it into the most serene floral imaginable. It's the smell of expensive face powder and old love letters. Patchouli, musk and a whisper of civet warm the base, giving the powder an animal heartbeat. Earthy, warm, and quietly luxurious — an iris with a spiced twist that never loses its calm. Beginner-friendly.
