Composition
A 2014 composition evoking Russian tea culture. Mint, black pepper and raspberry open into black tea, magnolia and immortelle, over leather, incense, birchwood and labdanum. Smoky, spiced and enveloping.
To me this is a samovar in a snowed-in dacha, and I mean that completely. Mint and black pepper snap across the top like cold air, raspberry flashing sweet and red, and then black tea — real, tannic, smoky black tea — floods the middle, magnolia and immortelle softening it like honey stirred in. It smells like warmth you have to earn. Then the leather and birchwood and incense arrive, and it turns serious: smoked wood, old books, a fireplace that's been burning all day. Labdanum glows underneath like embers. This is a masterpiece for people who like their perfume like their literature — dark and demanding. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
