Composition
Pivoine Angel is part of the Garden of Stars collection, a 2005 limited edition dedicated to the peony. Light green notes of twigs open the composition, the heart is dominated by peony with rose and lily-of-the-valley and a peppery touch, and the base is sweet and soft with patchouli and vanilla. A floral, airy take on the Angel theme.
To me this smells like a florist's shop on a March morning, the shutters just rolled up. Green twiggy stems still wet from the bucket, a crack of pepper in the air from someone's cooking next door, and then the peonies open — huge, blushing, impossibly soft, with rose and lily-of-the-valley crowding around them. The patchouli here is gentle, more earth than smoke, and the vanilla rounds the edges like milk in tea. It is springtime doing its absolute best, and it asks nothing of you. Beginner-friendly.
