Composition
Opus IV is an oriental eau de parfum for women and men by Jacques Flori, launched in 2010 as part of the Library Collection. It opens with coriander, grapefruit, Amalfi lemon and mandarin orange, develops cardamom, caraway, elemi, rose, rosehip and violet in the heart, and settles into incense, French labdanum and musk.
To me this smells like getting lost in Khari Baoli, Asia's largest spice market, at noon. Coriander seed, grapefruit and Amalfi lemon hit first — bright, bitter, almost aggressively fresh — the way the air smells where the citrus sacks are piled. Then the spice corridor: cardamom and caraway and elemi, warm and dusty, with rose and rosehip and violet drifting through like someone's perfume mixing with the merchandise. And underneath it all, the temple at the end of the lane — incense and French labdanum smoking, musk softening the edges. It is chaotic and magnificent. A whole market street in a bottle. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
