French Labdanum

French labdanum refers to labdanum resin sourced and processed in France, particularly from the Grasse region, where it is refined to perfumer-grade quality. Like all labdanum it comes from rockrose shrubs, but the French processing tends to yield a slightly smoother, more honeyed resin with polished balsamic facets. The scent is deep and warm, all dried fruit, leather and resinous sweetness with remarkable tenacity on skin. It serves the same role as standard labdanum, anchoring amber and oriental compositions, but connoisseurs prize the French grade for its refinement. In Indian winters it blooms beautifully, giving fragrances a rich, enveloping base that lasts through long evenings. A mark of quality you will spot in fine French orientals and luxury amber scents.
