Composition
A 2006 incense study from the Roman house. Olibanum opens into myrrh and orange blossom, over a base of sandalwood. Meditative, resinous and quietly floral - smoke softened by a single flower.
To me this smells like stepping into a stone church in the hour before evening prayer, when the frankincense has been burning all day. Olibanum rises in thick, resinous waves — myrrh dark and bitter beneath it — the way smoke hangs in a sunbeam and won't clear. Orange blossom appears like a miracle, sweet and pale against the heaviness, then sandalwood smooths everything into warm wood. This is not incense as an accent; it is incense as a sacrament. Ancient, solemn, and utterly uncompromising. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
