Composition
Miel de Bois (Wood Honey) is Serge Lutens' 2005 wild honey and dry wood study. Hawthorn, beeswax and honey open into a heart of red fruits and guaiac wood, settling into sandalwood, musk and cedar. Dry, animalic and golden — honey without the syrup.
To me this smells like a wild beehive found in a hollow tree — hawthorn and beeswax first, dry and waxy, honey that smells of bark and propolis rather than sugar. Red fruits bleed through like berries crushed on wood, guaiac adding a smoky, almost tarry edge, sandalwood and cedar drying everything into golden dust. Musk keeps it animalic, warm as fur. Honey without the syrup, exactly — dry, golden, faintly feral. Beautiful, but it demands you meet it on its own terms. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
