Composition
The 2022 summer edition of L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme, illustrated by Kevin Lucbert. Watery notes, bergamot and lemon open into a heart of eucalyptus, jasmine and basil. The dry-down rests on cypress, pine, balsam fir and cedar.
To me this smells like a morning swim in a Himalayan lake — watery notes so clear you can see the bottom, bergamot and lemon fizzing on the surface like sunlight. It's cold in the best way, the kind of cold that wakes you up all the way to the bones. Eucalyptus and basil steam off the heart like a forest after rain, jasmine just a white flicker in the green. Then the conifers take over: cypress, pine, balsam fir, cedar — a whole deodar forest drying down on your skin, resinous and clean and endlessly breathable. Summer, but only the 6am part of it.
