Composition
L'Eau de Navigateur is a masculine eau de toilette from L'Artisan Parfumeur, launched in 1982 and composed by Jean-Claude Ellena. Created in honour of the king's adventurers and buccaneers, it is a powerful marriage of exotic woods, resins, tobacco and rare flowers, enhanced with the unusual note of coffee. A richly dark and smoky fragrance.
To me this smells like the captain's cabin of a pirate ship — coffee and spices thick in the air, tobacco smoldering in a pipe, rare flowers wilting in a brass vase, resins oozing from the woodwork like the ship is sweating gold. Exotic woods and smoke fill the base like the hold itself, dark and endless. A 1982 powerhouse from the days when masculine perfumes were built like galleons — dark, boozy, and completely unafraid of you. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
