Composition
Encre Indigo is the 2023 sequel to Encre Noire, composed by Annick Menardo. Bergamot, juniper berry and pink pepper open the composition, leading to a heart of Madagascar bay, saffron and Korean black tea. The base pairs patchouli with Madagascar vetiver and ambergris.
To me this smells like writing with a fountain pen in a room lit by a single lamp. Bergamot and juniper open sharp and inky, pink pepper crackles like static, and then black tea and saffron steep into something dark and contemplative. Patchouli, vetiver and ambergris dry it down like ink drying on thick paper — dry, mineral, quietly intense. It is the sequel to Encre Noire and it earns the name: this is a scent for people who like their perfumes like their coffee, black. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
