Composition
Amethyst by Lalique is a floral fruity fragrance inspired by the gemstone of the same name. The opening is a burst of dark berries — black currant, blackberry, blueberry and strawberry — that gives way to a heart of peony, pepper-spiced rose and ylang-ylang. Bourbon vanilla, musk and woody notes form a powdery, soft base.
To me this smells like a bowl of jamun and blackberries eaten with your hands — dark berries bursting, staining your fingers purple. Black currant leads, all juicy and slightly tart, and then peony and pepper-spiced rose bloom through it like flowers pushing up through fruit. Bourbon vanilla and musk soften everything into a powdery, violet-hued haze. Like the gemstone it's named for: deep purple, a little mysterious, but warm to wear. Sweet without being simple. The pepper in the heart keeps the berries from going jammy — a grown-up fruitiness, dark and gleaming. Beginner-friendly.
