Black Currant
“Tart, dark berry with a green, sharp bite — juicy and vivid.”
Black currant, or cassis, smells dark, jammy and intensely fruity with a distinctive green, almost catty sharpness from its buds. The berry's scent is more complex than simple sweetness, tart, deep and slightly wild. In perfumery it adds a dark fruity richness to chypres, fruity orientals and modern niche compositions. The bud absolute is particularly prized. In India, black currant's dark fruitiness works well in winter evenings, when its jammy depth feels luxurious. In summer the tartness can shine in fresh-fruity blends. A sophisticated berry for those who find strawberry too simple.
