PatchouliSynthetic Jungle is a unisex eau de parfum from Frederic Malle, launched in 2021. It opens with Galbanum, Basil and Black Currant. The heart reveals Lily-Of-The-Valley, Hyacinth, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang and Almond settling into a base of Oakmoss and Patchouli. Its character is defined by Green, White Floral and Fresh Spicy accords.
To me this is a greenhouse where something is slightly wrong. Galbanum, basil and blackcurrant open shockingly green — crushed stems, unripe fruit, the smell of a plant fighting back — and then lily-of-the-valley, hyacinth, jasmine, ylang and almond bloom, white flowers with an edge, like orchids in a lab. Oakmoss and patchouli dry it down dark and earthy, like soil under glass. It's called synthetic for a reason: this is nature with the saturation turned up too high. Brilliant, strange, and not for everyone. Green perfume at its most confrontational. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
