Composition
Cologne Bigarade is a unisex eau de cologne from Frederic Malle, launched in 2001. It opens with Bitter Orange. The heart reveals Rose settling into a base of Grass, Hay and Cedar. Its character is defined by Citrus, Green and Fresh accords.
Morning spray of this and I am suddenly walking through an orange grove right after the sprinklers shut off. Bitter orange hangs sharp in the air, wet grass under my shoes, and somewhere a dry haystack warming in the sun with a single wild rose bush growing beside it. Cedar bark under my fingernails. It is the cleanest green thing Frederic Malle ever bottled. No sweetness, no apology — just citrus, chlorophyll and sunshine. The hay note is what makes it — dry, golden, sun-warmed — like lying in a field with orange peel on your fingers. It smells like a holiday that never ended. Beginner-friendly.
