Composition
Seven Veils is Byredo's 2011 spicy-oriental inspired by Salome's biblical dance of the seven veils. Carrot seed and pimento berries open sparkling, over laurier rose, glycine, tiger orchid and Tahitian vanilla flower, into sandalwood and vanilla. Heady, bejeweled and seductive — shameless seduction in scent.
To me this smells like Salome's dance rendered in scent — carrot seed and pimento opening with a strange, sparkling spice, like jewels catching light. Then the veils start falling: laurier rose, glycine, tiger orchid, Tahitian vanilla flower, each one softer and more golden than the last. Sandalwood and vanilla close it warm and bejewelled. It is heady and seductive and completely shameless, a spicy oriental that knows exactly what it is doing. Pimento berries spark at the opening like struck matches. Beginner-friendly.
