Radio Bombay is a unisex eau de parfum from D.S. & Durga, launched in 2016 and evoking a sandalwood radio humming ragas in the Bandra heat. Woody notes and cedar open into sandalwood, iris, peach and boronia. The base layers sandalwood, coconut, ambergris, ambrette, balsam fir and musk.
To me this smells like a radio humming old ragas in the Bandra heat. The sandalwood is the whole atmosphere — creamy, warm, unmistakably Mysore in spirit — with cedar giving it structure like the wooden cabinet of the radio itself. Iris powders everything soft, peach and coconut add a surprising fruity creaminess — like a cold drink on a hot afternoon, boronia adding a strange fruity-tea depth — and ambergris, ambrette and musk melt into warm skin. Balsam fir keeps it from ever getting sleepy. It is Bombay in a bottle, and it is gorgeous. Beginner-friendly.
