Composition
Debaser is a unisex eau de parfum from D.S. & Durga, launched in 2015 and named after the Pixies song. Bergamot, green leaf and pear stem open into a heart of ripe fig, coconut milk and iris. The base blends blond woods, tonka bean and moss, giving the fig accord a creamy, serene finish.
To me this smells like splitting open a ripe fig with your hands in a late-summer garden. Bergamot, green leaf and pear stem open green and alive — the smell of the tree, not just the fruit — and then the fig itself arrives, creamy and honeyed, with coconut milk making it impossibly smooth and iris adding a cool powdery calm. Blond woods, tonka bean and moss dry it down into something serene, like lying in grass after the garden work is done. Named after a Pixies song, but it smells like the quietest moment of the day. Creamy, green, and completely at peace. Beginner-friendly.
