Composition
Oud Immortel is Byredo's 2010 woody-chypre built around oud, the dark wood of the Aquilaria tree sacred in Sanskrit tradition. Limoncello, incense and cardamom open into oud, patchouli, papyrus and Brazilian rosewood, over tobacco leaves and oak moss. Smoky, spiritual and elegant — oud as meditation.
To me this smells like meditation in a temple built from dark wood. Limoncello flashes bright and strange at the opening — citrus liqueur in a sacred space — before incense and cardamom smoke begin to rise, and then the oud arrives: deep, woody, almost solemn. Patchouli, papyrus and Brazilian rosewood darken the heart like old manuscripts, tobacco leaves and oak moss grounding it in earth. It's oud as a spiritual practice — smoky, elegant, and profoundly serious. This is not a perfume you wear; it's a perfume you observe. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
