Composition
Opus XV - King Blue is an oriental-woody eau de parfum for women and men by Alexis Grugeon and Hamid Merati-Kashani, launched in 2023 in The Library Collection. It opens with mandarin orange, black currant and pink pepper, develops frankincense and amber in the heart, and settles into agarwood (oud), leather, oak, sandalwood and patchouli.
To me this smells like a coronation in a cold cathedral. Mandarin and black currant open dark and jewel-like, pink pepper striking like a match in the gloom. Then the frankincense rises — real church incense, resinous and solemn — over amber glowing like candlelight. And the base is pure power: agarwood oud deep and commanding, leather like a throne, oak and sandalwood like the panels of a great hall, patchouli darkening everything. It does not ask for attention. It assumes it. The bluest blood in the Library Collection. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
