Composition
A 2013 limited-edition Les Échappées EDP by Alienor Massenet — the Lalibela composition 'veiled in oud'. Coconut, orchid and rose over oud, vanilla, tobacco and frankincense.
Lalibela Oud is a trip: it opens with creamy coconut and orchid, almost tropical, then rose and jasmine sweep in — and then the veil drops. Oud, frankincense, tobacco, patchouli and vanilla create a dark, incense-thick base that smells like a rock-hewn Ethiopian church at dusk. The coconut-oud contrast is genuinely strange and compelling. This was a limited edition and is now hard to find. Definitely not for beginners — it's opulent, smoky and unapologetic.
