Composition
L'Eau de Tarocco is Diptyque's 2009 aromatic-spicy eau de cologne by Olivier Pescheux, inspired by a Moroccan dessert of orange slices soaked in rosewater and dusted with cinnamon and saffron. Blood orange and grapefruit open over saffron, ginger and rose tincture, with cinnamon, incense, Virginia cedar and musk in the base. Sweet, fresh and lightly spiced.
To me this smells like a Moroccan dessert served in a riad courtyard. Blood orange and grapefruit shine bright and juicy at first — citrus split open in the sun — and then the spices arrive: saffron, ginger, cinnamon, warm and golden, like the air above a spice stall. The tincture of rose is the signature — rosewater poured over the orange slices, just like the real dessert — and Virginia cedar, musk and a thread of incense ground it all. Joyful, exotic, and completely refreshing. Beginner-friendly.
