Composition
A 2010 amber from the Les Nombres d'Or collection. Ylang-ylang opens into cedarwood and benzoin, over tolu balm and vanilla absolute. Warm, resinous and golden.
To me this smells like the inside of a violin — ylang-ylang blooming over the wood for one bright moment, then nothing but resin: cedarwood, benzoin, tolu balm, vanilla absolute dark as varnish. It is dense, golden, and completely still, like amber with the light trapped inside. There is no evolution here, only depth; every hour it seems to glow warmer, the resins melting into each other until skin and balsam are the same thing. It is the smell of something precious sealed away for a hundred years. Hypnotic and uncompromising. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
