Composition
The pure-parfum edition of Amber Aoud, paying homage to Middle Eastern perfumery. Lime, lemon and bergamot open into rose de Mai, fig, jasmine and ylang-ylang, over ambergris, saffron, agarwood (oud), benzoin, musk, cinnamon, patchouli, sandalwood, orris root, birch and oakmoss.
To me this smells like dawn breaking over a rose garden in Taif — lime, lemon, and bergamot cut through the morning like light through leaves, impossibly bright. Rose de Mai blooms underneath, pink and dewy, with fig's milky green sweetness and jasmine's white heat. But this is a Roja oud, and the dawn doesn't last: ambergris brings its salty skin-warmth, saffron threads gold through the dark, and then the agarwood itself — deep, resinous, honeyed-smoky — over benzoin, musk, cinnamon, patchouli, sandalwood, birch, oakmoss. Citrus into roses into oud: a whole journey from light to dark. Stunning, and far too much for a first-timer. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
