Composition
Roja Dove's oud built on Middle Eastern gum resins. Bergamot, lemon and lime open into rose, fig, ylang-ylang and jasmine, over agarwood oud, ambergris, saffron, civet, sandalwood, musk, cinnamon, orris root, patchouli, birch and oakmoss.
To me this smells like the back room of a souk where the serious resins are kept. Bergamot, lemon and lime open bright — a flash of light before the dark. Then rose and fig and jasmine drift through like incense in a carpet shop, and the base is where it gets primal: agarwood oud deep and barnyardy, ambergris salty, saffron leathery, civet unmistakably animal, sandalwood and patchouli and birch and oakmoss building a forest floor underneath. This is oud with its claws out. Middle Eastern, uncompromising, magnificent. It does not care if you are ready. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
