Composition
1996 Inez & Vinoodh is Byredo's 2013 oriental-woody created for photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin from their portrait 'Kirsten, 1996'. Juniper berries and black pepper open into leather, orris and violet, settling into black amber, patchouli and vanilla. Refined, vintage and artistic — a photograph translated into scent.
To me this smells like a black-and-white photograph that learned to breathe — juniper berries and black pepper snapping cold and green at the opening, and then a dark leather accord unfolding over orris and violet, powdery and bruised-purple. Black amber, patchouli and vanilla deepen it into something nocturnal and cinematic. It is the scent of a portrait session that ran long into the night — moody, magnetic, and not interested in being easy. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
