The Bewitching Yasmine is Penhaligon's 2017 Portraits fragrance by Marie Salamagne — the lady of the house with the cat head. Cardamom and coffee open into jasmine sambac and fir, over Tahitian vanilla, Laotian oud and incense. Sweet, smoky and oudy — a bewitching affair of coffee, jasmine and oud.
This smells like a smoky Delhi café during the monsoon, and I mean that as a compliment. Cardamom and coffee open dark and spiced, like the first sip of a strong brew, and then jasmine sambac blooms through — but it is a night jasmine, heavy and white, with fir adding a cold green edge. It is the lady of the house, and she is not to be trifled with. Tahitian vanilla, Laotian oud, and incense in the base make it smoky, sweet, and animalic all at once. It is bewitching in the literal sense — it puts a spell on the room. Gorgeous, strange, and definitely not a safe choice. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
