Composition
A sublime marriage of the noble Centifolia rose and a playful accord of almonds and honey, by Pierre Montale: pure nougat — dense, hefty, deliriously sweet but never headache-y — over vanilla.
To me this smells like the inside of a Turkish delight box. Centifolia rose opens — the noble rose, lush and honeyed — and then the almonds and honey arrive, and it becomes pure nougat. Dense, hefty, deliriously sweet — but never headache-y, never cloying. Just this perfect chewy sweetness, the way good nougat melts, with vanilla smoothing the base into cream. It is the simplest pleasure in the Montale line and maybe the most perfect: rose, almond, honey, vanilla. A sublime marriage, exactly as promised. Beginner-friendly.
