Composition
Stella, launched in 2003 and created by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, is Stella McCartney's first fragrance — built around a sumptuous, fragile rose whose petals would fall at the slightest touch. Rose oil, peony and mandarin open onto a rose heart over a warm amber base.
Stella is the contrast between the freshness of the rose and the dark sensuality of amber — dewy florals and crisp mandarin give way to a soft, end-of-summer rose resting on pale, polished amber. It is pale rather than deep, casual rather than seductive: a modern rose that appeals even to people who think they don't like rose. Discontinued in 2019, it inspired a devoted nostalgia market — devotees stockpiled bottles and the community still hunts for dupes. In India it is a lovely monsoon-and-winter rose. Beginner-friendly — a gentle, modern rose with excellent manners.
