Composition
Savoy Steam is Penhaligon's 2017 aromatic by Juliette Karagueuzoglou — a steam-mist of fresh roses, an olfactory hammam. Eucalyptus, rosemary, pink pepper, mint, bergamot and lemon open into rose, tea, geranium and cardamom, over white musk, vanilla, incense and benzoin. Warm, clean and enveloping — a soothing rub-down in scent.
To me this smells like a Victorian hammam rendered in mist. Eucalyptus and rosemary rush up first — camphorous, green, the shock of cold air on hot skin — with mint, pink pepper and citrus brightening the steam. Then the roses bloom through it, fresh and dewy, tea and geranium adding a soft, almost soapy elegance. The incense and benzoin in the base are the warm stone underneath, vanilla and musk like a towel wrapped around you after. It is invigorating and luxurious at once — a spa day you can wear.
