Composition
The Ruthless Countess Dorothea is a 2017 Eau de Parfum for women from Penhaligon's Portraits collection. It is an oriental-vanilla built on a spicy top of ginger, Chinese cinnamon wood and bergamot, a herbal-waxy heart of beeswax, mate and clary sage, and a base of white wine, vanilla and cashmeran. The brand describes it as sharp and aromatic underpinned by warming vanilla.
Earl Grey tea at a very grand adda: bergamot and ginger steam rising, then a tray of buttery scones with honey, and underneath it all a mischievous splash of sherry. The Countess is warm, witty, and quietly decadent — cinnamon and beeswax giving it a lipstick-and-fur-coat glamour, vanilla keeping it cosy. It suits Indian festive nights and cool-weather evenings beautifully. Approachable for beginners who like warm, spicy-vanilla scents; the herbal edge keeps it from being boring.
