Composition
Royal Aoud is an eau de parfum by Montale, launched in 2005 and composed by Pierre Montale. It opens with kumquat, grapefruit and peach, moves through rose, Indian spices and coconut, and grounds itself in oud and woods. Unisex, fruity-spicy and woody, it is a brighter, more playful take on the house's oud theme.
The opening is a burst of juicy citrus and peach — bright, almost tropical, like a fruit punch with a spicy secret. The coconut and Indian spices soon add a creamy, exotic warmth, and the rose keeps it elegant rather than foody. The oud in the base is gentle, more woody-incense than barnyard, giving the dry-down a warm, golden depth. It is far more approachable than Montale's darker ouds and works well in the evening in most seasons. Moderately beginner-friendly for an oud — the fruity opening makes it easy to like, though the spice needs a quick sample check.
