Composition
Purple Rain by Prada is a floral woody musk fragrance launched in 2015 as part of the Olfactories collection by Daniela Andrier. It reimagines Prada's iconic iris with green opening notes of galbanum, bergamot and neroli, a powdery heart of iris and rose, and a dry, clean base of vetiver, cedar and sandalwood softened with white musk. Retailer Holt Renfrew describes it as a fresh and warm blend of green neroli, delicate iris and orange blossom leading to a vetiver finish.
To me this is 6pm in October when the sky goes purple and the first real rain hits hot pavement — bergamot peel and green galbanum snapping like a cold breeze, then the florals bloom out of the steam: powdery iris, rose, neroli, all soft edges. Underneath there is vetiver and cedar, dry wood and clean musk, like rain running off a sandalwood fence. It smells like standing in the doorway watching a storm, and deciding to walk out into it anyway. Beginner-friendly.
