Composition
Cargo de Nuit by Prada is a woody fragrance launched in 2015 as part of the Olfactories collection by Daniela Andrier. Prada describes it as the scent of a twilight passage on the high seas, centering on ambrette (musk mallow) and cedar, with coumarin, sandalwood, orris and freesia. Retailers describe it opening with musk and aldehydes, a woody and mineral heart, and an amber base of ambroxan and coumarin.
This is the smell of a cargo ship's deck at twilight, somewhere mid-ocean. Aldehydes lift like sea mist off the rails, and the air is full of wooden crates — dry cedar, a breath of freesia and orris powder drifting from somewhere below deck. The ambrette musk sits close to the skin like clean sweat after a long day's work. As it dries down it turns amber and warm — ambroxan and sandalwood, coumarin softening the edges like lamplight. Masculine in the old sense: salt, wood, and quiet competence. It never shouts; it just stays with you. Beginner-friendly.
