Composition
Néroli Outrenoir is a unisex eau de parfum from Guerlain, launched in 2016. It opens with Petitgrain, Bergamot, Tangerine, Lemon and Grapefruit. The heart reveals Tea, Neroli, Orange Blossom, Smoke and Earthy Notes settling into a base of Vanilla, Myrrh, Benzoin, Ambrette (musk Mallow) and Oakmoss. Its character is defined by Citrus, White Floral and Green accords.
To me this smells like an orange grove after a wildfire — petitgrain and bergamot still bright as the morning, tangerine and grapefruit flashing through the haze, and then smoke: real, earthy, unapologetic smoke curling around the neroli like it owns the place. Tea steeps bitter-green in the middle, orange blossom fighting to stay beautiful through the ash. Vanilla, myrrh and benzoin try to comfort it at the base, ambrette and oakmoss grounding it in damp, dark earth. It's Guerlain at its most confrontational: beauty, interrupted. You have to meet it halfway. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
